beginner question.. pls help! (: - slacker878 - 04-04-2012

Hi!

I am pretty new at this, so bare with me?

I have a question regarding the best attack vector with cracking.

Let say if the password is a combination of words and numbers.
Lets say in a logical sentence like: FreeBurgers4U

What would be the best method of cracking? I am using hashcat+, am thinking of combinator attack, but I can't seem to get it working correctly.
Hows would it compare with fingerprint or rule-based?

Would it work out well for a password with numbers and uppercase?
I think bruteforce would be very inefficient in this case. Hence my logical thought would be a dictionary+mask hybrid tt did not need me to specify the exact mask, hence the a/m attack vectors.

thanks!
z

The best way to crack this is combinator attack, you're on a good path. You need some good dictionaries that it can combine the word "Free" with the word "Burgers4U" which both are inside your dictionary.
