RE: oclHashcat benchmark with Apple CPU + GPU - epixoip - 02-25-2016
For the price of that expansion chassis, you could build a complete 4-GPU server. And using that expander means your laptop is no longer mobile, you're tied to your desk. And you have to have all those GPUs sitting on your desk right beside you.
What the vast majority of us do is rack up a server somewhere and access it from your laptop over SSH anywhere in the world. That way you retain your mobility and you've isolated all that noise & heat away from you.

Here's my benchmark.
By the way, I got the Abort trap: 6 error, too.

epixoip, my configuration is far from optimal; I'm just tickled pink it's running on the mac and am interested in seeing what it can do. Yes ultimately this stuff will be running in a rack or data center somewhere. I'll post some benchmarks soon. Currently I'm running:
- mac pro 6,1
- quad core 3.7GHz Xeon
- 32GB RAM
- dual D700s
I will add a Thunderbolt expansion chassis with 4 GPUs (GTX 970s at a minimum, maybe Titans) and post results here - hopefully it works.
[edit] This is all to see what a hobbyist can do on the Macintosh platform with Thunderbolt expansion - might try and push it further with multiple chassis.
RE: oclHashcat benchmark with Apple CPU + GPU - epixoip - 03-05-2016
Not sure why you'd invest this much in an Apple platform when we know how buggy OpenCL is on OS X, but okay.

RE: oclHashcat benchmark with Apple CPU + GPU - dlimanov - 04-29-2016
Apologies if this is a totally gnub question, but is anyone having the following problem running oclHashcat.app on their Macs:
./oclHashcat.app --benchmark

include/constants.h is there and accessible, are there any prereqs that are needed to run the program?
This is on MacBook Pro (Retina, 15-inch, Mid 2014) with NVIDIA GeForce GT 750M 2048 MB video.
Thanks!
RE: oclHashcat benchmark with Apple CPU + GPU - Arch Stanton - 04-29-2016
Had a similar issue, but I didn't record the error message. Downloaded the app again and it's running fine now. Think I promised to post some benchmarks a while back...
RE: oclHashcat benchmark with Apple CPU + GPU - dlimanov - 04-29-2016
Yeah, tried that; no love..
RE: oclHashcat benchmark with Apple CPU + GPU - Arch Stanton - 04-29-2016
Apologies if this posts twice - waited a few minutes and my original post doesn't seem to be appearing. In any case, benchmarks as promised. Need some more time to try the aforementioned expansion chassis loaded with GPUs. Not sure if I want to wait until the next Mac Pro is announced, with official Thunderbolt 3 support for external GPUs (Pascal).
Anyway, specs of my machine and benchmark below:
mac pro 6,1 (2013 cylinder)
3.7GHz quad core Xeon
dual d700s (under clocked Radeon 7970s with 6GB VRAM each)
32GB RAM
1TB SSD
ambient temperature ~ 75-76 degrees Fahrenheit. Machine completely silent, although the exhaust and exterior were very warm to the touch.

I don't have a GPU monitor, but CPU usage hovered around 15% the few times I checked TOP.

Hey Arch, it looks like you're running 2.01 version of the program, while the newest one is 2.10. Any way you could share the one you have? I'd love to try it on my machine and see if it's a version release issue. Dropbox, Google Drive, whatever works for you.
Much appreciated!
