HashCat does not show CPU consumption - MA40 - 07-10-2021
Hello.
I have running HashCat on a dedicated server with Ubuntu 20.04 Operating System and GNOME 3.36.8 desktop.
The information of the devices is as follows:
CUDA API (CUDA 11.4)
====================
* Device #1: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 750 Ti, 1971/2001 MB, 5MCU
OpenCL API (OpenCL 2.1 LINUX) - Platform #1 [Intel(R) Corporation]
==================================================================
* Device #2: Intel(R) Core(TM) i7 CPU 980 @ 3.33GHz, skipped
OpenCL API (OpenCL 3.0 CUDA 11.4.56) - Platform #2 [NVIDIA Corporation]
=======================================================================
* Device #3: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 750 Ti, skipped
The problem is that the HashCat System Monitor does NOT show the CPU consumption, (it shows 0%).
Why?
All the best.
RE: HashCat does not show CPU consumption - Xanadrel - 07-11-2021
As you can see from your own message, the cpu has been skipped, so it's not used, as expected.
If you want to actually use your cpu as well, you have to tell hashcat (check the various options related to devices).
If you are talking about hardware monitor for cpu inside of hashcat, well atom recently did a commit on that subject: https://github.com/hashcat/hashcat/commit/9fc6c26f8ccc6251c8fb88cb82f4a505a8c1db43.

RE: HashCat does not show CPU consumption - Xanadrel - 07-12-2021
I have no idea why you start posting outputs of clinfo/lspci/hashcat -I , maybe you have issues with english (but then many people on this forum are not native english speakers too).
So if it wasn't clear when I mention checking "options related to devices" I mean something like this:
Code: ./hashcat.bin --help | grep device
--cpu-affinity | Str | Locks to CPU devices, separated with commas | --cpu-affinity=1,2,3
-I, --backend-info | | Show info about detected backend API devices | -I
-d, --backend-devices | Str | Backend devices to use, separated with commas | -d 1
-D, --opencl-device-types | Str | OpenCL device-types to use, separated with commas | -D 1
--spin-damp | Num | Use CPU for device synchronization, in percent | --spin-damp=10

Hello.
Yes, I have a little problem with in English, but I saw this post with a problem similar to mine and they asked for that information: https://hashcat.net/forum/thread-9411.html
All the best.
RE: HashCat does not show CPU consumption - MA40 - 07-14-2021
Hello.
I think I already know what the problem is; although I don't know the solution.
In the response of "$ clinfo", at the end this message is displayed:
Code: NOTE: your OpenCL library only supports OpenCL 2.2,
but some installed platforms support OpenCL 3.0.
Programs using 3.0 features may crash
or behave unexpectedly
It seems that there is some incompatibility between the CUDA and OpenCL libraries.
I have done the following test: If I only install OpenCL, the message does not appear and HashCat works correctly with the CPU. It is after installing CUDA that the message appears and HashCat bypasses the CPU.
Please, can someone help me?
All the best.
