My vote is Distributed Computing but would this be restricted to local network only or could it be expanded to work world-wide so any number of computers could join in?

Distributing pluscat is a major project I think, unless you use some kind of library for it.

Atom, once that this option doesn't have a thread linked, can
you give a few details about this: example, amd 5xxx with 6xxx
series, or 5xxx with 7xxx series, or what kind of GPU would be

yeah, exactly that. i should add only amd + amd OR nv + nv but not amd + nv.
