oclHashcat on GTX 480 - re8el - 10-04-2010

Hi everyone,

my setup:

i7 with GTX 480
Ubuntu 10.10 x64
Nvidia devdriver 260.24
Cuda toolkit 3.2
OpenCL 1.0

all compile from source, examples running ok.

About oclHashcat-0.23

any ideias?

Best Regards

I think this may be a driver issue. I just installed the beta version of 260 and I got a very similar error, except mine was ERROR: clSetKernelArg() -49. Try switching to a older version of drivers.

DONT use dev driver.
Use latest WHQLd ForceWare.
You also may need to roll back to 3.1 toolkit(which is stable, not RC).

Only the driver?

UPDATE: updated driver to ver 256.53 oclhashcat0.23 runs ok but I'm not sure if its a good result, running the example.sh it gives

speedgpu1: 814.6M/s

can this be improved? OC maybe?

RE: oclHashcat on GTX 480 - Rolf - 10-04-2010

It's a very good result.
Overclocking is a good idea, if your gfx card is properly cooled (not with stock turbine, but with a decent radiator and 2+ fans/watercooled) and you know whacha doing.
Nvidia made GTX 480 a hot oven.

RE: oclHashcat on GTX 480 - D3ad0ne - 10-05-2010

Re8el, what do you get if you do this?:

./oclHashcat64.bin example.hash -n 80 --gpu-loops 1024 -m 0 -1 ?l?u?d ?1?1?1?1 ?1?1?1?1

Also i'm curious do you know what your GPU temperatures are at?

How can i improve the results?

RE: oclHashcat on GTX 480 - D3ad0ne - 10-06-2010

Well I see that you have the shaders overclocked to 1512Mhz. That's not to bad if your air cooled. Really your speeds aren't to bad for a 480. If you want to improve the results get two, or three more.
