6 x 7990's using ASUS BTC mining motherboard WPA2 - extrasilver - 04-05-2015

i'm looking a building a setup and my mind is set on the ASRock H81 Pro BTC Motherboard and using 6 pci 1x to 16x ribbon adapters

i have a small 450w power supply for the motherboard and two dell server power supply's in parallel with are capable of a constant 120amps on the 12v rail which I'll be using to power the cards

does anyone know how well this setup would perform? how many k/s cracking WPA2?
and with having this kind of setup would people be interested in renting time? curious to know Smile

The main hashcat page lists statistics for 7970, so double that for 7990s:

http://hashcat.net/oclhashcat/ (search for 'wpa2')

So if you can get all 6 working, I would guess 142 kh/s x 12 = 1.7 Mh/s for WPA2.

6x 7990 is not possible. 7990 is a dual-GPU card, so 6*2 = 12 GPUs. However the driver only supports 8 GPUs. Maximum possible 7990s in one system is 4.

ah i see thanks.. 6 would be nice but 4 would still make a real nice set-up.. i'm a little confused with comparing Mh/z and Kh/s to keys per second.. i understand this varies depending on the type of hash but in terms of wpa2 what would be a good guess on the keys per second running 4 7990's?

p.s i'm relatively new to hashcat and the world of hashes but i am learning so don't hate me haha

In this case, (h)ashes per second is the same as keys per second.

4x7990 = 8x7970 ~ 1,12 Mh/s

For a keyspace of 00000000 - 99999999 this means it would take 90 seconds.

Note that the 7990 is a bad one for password cracking. The speed is good but it's constantly overheating.

I've got a machine with a 7990. You need good airflow in the case, otherwise it will run hot. If you try to stuff 4 in one case good luck. I had two 7970's and a 7990 running in one case with a space between the cards and the 7990 still ends up having issues if I don't slow the clock speeds down on the front GPU.
