Building 4x GTX 1080 recommendation - timonline86 - 07-07-2016

I am planning on building a 4x GTX 1080 hash cracking build and would like recommendations on whether I should go for a socket 1151 motherboard VS 2011v3 one.

Secondly depending on the motherboard, which CPU has enough PCI lanes to effectively run all those cards.

This is a possible build I have in mind but feel free to correct me if it will not work out:

      Case: Corsair 900D
      Motherboard: ASUS Rampage V
      Processor: Intel Core i7 5820K  (Plan to upgrade to i7 6900K eventually)
      GPU: 4x EVGA GTX 1080 Founder's Edition
      RAM: 32GB Quad Channel Memory running at 2400Mhz
      PSU: EVGA SuperNOVA 750 Gold 80+


Any feedback is appreciated

You will need more power for your PSU as 4 x GTX 1080 FE will require at least 720W (180W x 4) and 750 W psu won't be enough.

i7 CPU should be able to handle 4 GPU. I'm using i5 and runs 4 x 1080 FE ok.

Thanks for responding, so the motherboard and CPU are fine but I just need to up my PSU to 1500W or 1600W one?

I beleive 50% to 60% capacity is recommeended for PSU efficiency. So in your case you will need a PSU of 1500W / 1600W PSU.

Updated my question to a 1500/1600W PSU based on your advice.

Am I good to go with these specs?

4xcards very very high temp.
Im not sure1, cooling gpu's this case. I check the image this case and fans only "disc side".
Im not sure2, power 320-400watt per card, link, I using 1000w psu 2 x gtx1080 at single xeon cpu.

1, temps might be an issue, u did not mention what case will u use but u should take in mind that the cards should never reach over 79C, after this point 80-82C the card will throttle, so make sure to take fans that push enough air inside the case aswell taking it out.
2, the PSU that u mention (1500) is more than enough
3, on the mobo
u need to take in mind that the mobo that u offered here as no vga port..
unless u planing to run a linux os on them, because when using one of the DVI/HDMI port of the cards when u will run the attacks it will be laggy as hell.

I'm using a HDMI port on a card (conected to my monitor) being under pressure of hashcat and there was no problem.

ok i'm late but it might be good for people who are planning to build such a thing.

So if you mean ROG RAMPAGE V EDITION 10 i gotta say no. you can't achieve what you want.
i have not tested but from what we can find out from specs here:
https://www.asus.com/us/Motherboards/ROG-RAMPAGE-V-EDITION-10/specifications/
with a Core i7 5820K you can't get 4x gpus to work.

Look at expansion slots part:
4 x PCIe 3.0/2.0 x16 (x16, x16/x16, x16/x8/x8, x16/x8/x8/x8 or x8/x8/x8/x8 mode with 40-LANE CPU; x16, x16/x8 or x8/x8/x8 mode with 28-LANE CPU)

The 5820k only supports 28 lanes so you are going for x8/x8/x8 mode at most!

I would be happy to hear any opposite ideas.

hashcat work perfectly with x4 . i dont see any problem with that.
the problem can happen if u try to mount big dics, but even that x4 is enough to load it all, 
if u would use a riser the problem above could apply u, but x4 is good enough
some one correct me if im wrong
