Building a password cracking machine - Crackattack - 07-08-2016 I'm looking to build a high end cracking machine I've 25,000 available to spend I was thinking to build a machine with a dual xeon cpu motherboard with the two E7 xeons and 4 titan x's in sli Here's my question while 4 titan x's don't really make a super crazy cracking machine if I had more money How many titan x's would it take to crack any passwords up to 12-16 characters with capitals /characters / numbers etc with brute force type attack with the process only taking an hour or two RE: Building a password cracking machine - rico - 07-08-2016 If you don't know enough about hashcat to know not to use SLI - and also not specify what hash type you even intend on cracking then I'm not sure you should be building a 25K cracking rig... I think you should either give up (len 12 can be a formidable keyspace) or buy a pre-built rig like Saggita make, e.g. https://sagitta.pw/ RE: Building a password cracking machine - Crackattack - 07-08-2016 Yea I'm aware sli isn't the best way, I'm asking how many gpu could you put on a setup like brutalis 8 gpu doesn't sound much Would 20 gpu be able a crack 90 percent of user passwords on the net RE: Building a password cracking machine - rico - 07-08-2016 (07-08-2016, 11:20 PM)Crackattack Wrote: Yea I'm aware sli isn't the best way, I'm asking how many gpu could you put on a setup like brutalis 8 gpu doesn't sound much No idea. RE: Building a password cracking machine - inprivate - 07-09-2016 do you think about two or more Pro duo CF system? It's easier to have many GPU on many computer and then bundle them over network. If I did the math correctly you only need around 200 Quadrillion gtx 1080 cards to brute force 12 character hashes in 2 hours. So with GTX 1080 cards being around $700 today, you only need around 140 Quintillion dollars worth of GPUs.[/color] (07-10-2016, 04:51 AM)inprivate Wrote:(07-10-2016, 02:03 AM)kiara Wrote:about 5887 years(07-08-2016, 11:00 PM)Crackattack Wrote: How many titan x's would it take to crack any passwords up to 12-16 characters with capitals /characters / numbers etc with brute force type attack with the process only taking an hour or two RE: Building a password cracking machine - atom - 07-22-2016 Don't forget the power consumption |
