Quad 1080 ti Build | Need Hardware Advice - Knoxville - 11-29-2017 Hi All- I'm looking to purchase a new GPU cracker with the following hardware below. Would love to get some feedback on the build. I have already procured the 4x1080ti FE graphics cards, so no need to comment how they are very low stock at this point.
RE: Quad 1080 ti Build | Need Hardware Advice - royce - 11-29-2017 x16 throughput is not important for most hashcat attacks. x4 is the minimum from my testing, for both hashcat and john. Having some RAM and CPU to feed the GPUs for some attacks is a good call. Ditto for the choice of FE. I've read that having the same amount of system RAM as GPU VRAM is recommended. I don't fully understand the reasoning for that yet. GPU-resistant algorithms like scrypt can certainly use some system RAM when used on CPU. I don't have experience with the Tis so I'm not sure about real-world power draw, but back of the napkin, this looks sane. Max is 300w if you raise the limit with nvidia-smi, but realistically I don't see mine get past about 260w each. |
