difference between double wide PCIex16 vs double wide PCIe Gen3 x16 - joe123 - 06-20-2019 Hello forum, Tyan does offer several GPU Computing Platforms. Some of them are: Tyan Thunder HX GA88B5631 (B5631G88V2HR-2T-N) 4 Double-width PCIex16 slots for GPUs https://tyan.com/Barebones_GA88B5631_B5631G88V2HR-2T-N vs. TYAN FT77CB7079 (B7079F77CV10HR-N) 8 Double-Wide PCIe Gen3 x16 Slots for NVIDIA Tesla GPUs https://tyan.com/Barebones_FT77CB7079_B7079F77CV10HR-N My question: Whats the difference between double wide PCIex 16 vs double wide PCIe Gen3 x16? Thank's for any feedback! Joe RE: difference between double wide PCIex16 vs double wide PCIe Gen3 x16 - lapwing - 06-20-2019 If you scroll down to the section "Expansion Slots" you will see that both systems provide Generation3 PCI Express slots. If you want to know the difference between the generations of PCIe check the Wikipedia page, differences mainly involve bandwidth. Double width means the physical size of the card supported: twice a single slot. RE: difference between double wide PCIex16 vs double wide PCIe Gen3 x16 - joe123 - 06-26-2019 Thank you very much for the feedback. I should probably have asked : - do both chassis support modern high powered GPU cards (like the 1080ti and 2010)? Thank's for any feedback! Joe RE: difference between double wide PCIex16 vs double wide PCIe Gen3 x16 - undeath - 06-26-2019 PCIe is fully downward compatible. RE: difference between double wide PCIex16 vs double wide PCIe Gen3 x16 - lapwing - 06-27-2019 Hi Joe, (06-26-2019, 05:03 PM)joe123 Wrote: - do both chassis support modern high powered GPU cards (like the 1080ti and 2010)? If you check the GPU support list with *tested* cards you will see both servers support modern high power GPGPUs (Volta and Pascal). The FT77 there is already tested against an RTX6000 so you should have no worries as long as you keep your inlet air temperature low. RE: difference between double wide PCIex16 vs double wide PCIe Gen3 x16 - SkyWolf - 07-12-2019 big diffrence in my option in PCIE gen one VS three look at https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/PCI_Express look at PCI Express link performance. pcie gen 1 was introduced in 2003 and x16 has a transfer of 4 GB/s Gen 3 16x has a transfer of 15.75 GB/s |
