Post: RE: Dead simple example on OSX

No but zip2john adds some stuff that's not needed in hashcat. You just need to remove it. See the link from Karamba to find out what exactly.

Well no matter if it's a hash or a cipher, hitting it would be pure luck, but is very unlikely. The right way to do is to understand the process which produces that output.

I think there's no preimage attacks for MD5 either, not even MD4, otherwise NTLM would be useless.

Post: RE: Hashcat 6.2.4 old AMD HIP version outdated

There are some fundamental structural changes in HIP 4.4. These changes force us to support either the new HIP API or the old HIP API. Hashcat v6.2.4 is now rewritten to work with Hashcat as soon as A...

Nothing, that's exactly the expected behavior. The first 4 byte are used as amplifiers. If you really need to brute force the first 4 byte you can use hybrid rules in -a 0 mode for almost full speed.

For the last part you can use toggle rules. First can be done with mask processor, but is not a rule. The one in the middle needs coding. So in general is possible but not out of the box.
