It´s important to buy powered USB risers, like this one.
I dont know how you will connect your power suppley, but some Riser cards have multi power supply like this one:

I dont agree with Sondero, that its important to get USB risers, since they will lower your performance for something like dictionary or stdin attacks (at least for fast hashes). It would also be a waste, because you got a nice Mobo that actually supports PCIe x8 on all seven slots simultaneously.

I know that these Thermaltake risers are really expensive, but for me they are doing a great job so far. If you want to go save a bit of money here, I recommend that you order your frame first and then do some testing and measuring to figure out what lengths you actually need.

I only knew the passiv Thermaltake-Risers,.... do they have also have a powered version?
A RTX2080TI needs 75W from the PCIe-Sockel if this article is correct( https://tweak.de/grafikkarte/msi-geforce...ing-x-trio

With 7x GPUs you need 525W on your PCI-Bus, i´m not sure if the mainboard will provide so much power.


Do you have some benchmarks between x1 and x8 risers?

AFAIK there are no ribbon risers (like the ones of Thermaltake) with additional power inputs.

It should be capable of doing so, if the vendor states support for 7 GPUs without further notice. There are also additional power connectors on the Mainboard to deal with these kinds of load. Nevertheless I dont have personal experience with such a 7 GPU configuration, but only one with 4 GPUs.

Unfortunately not, but there should be no or at most insignificant differences between x1 and x8 in terms of benchmarking or brute-forcing. The maximum bandwidth of PCIe 3.0 x1 (a bit less than 1 GB/s) will become a bottleneck though, when you run attacks  that do candidate generation purely on the CPU (like Dictionary or Stdin).

TBF, my knowledge about USB-based x1 risers is purely theoretical, acquired by reading the forum here and the guide by unix ninja. My opinion about those is pretty much like: They can work, but have this bottle neck drawback, might cause compatibility issues or might be of inferior quality and set your rig on fire :p

I used the USB-Risers years ago at a minig rig.
Before i used the USB-Riser i also used some like the Thermaltake with flat cables, but only cheap one, where i sometimes have broken wires, and a bad air flow.

Btw. the USB-Risers dont use the USB-protokoll, ist only a cable with standard connectors if the board provides 525Watt (i would write the support befor i will buy).
If Airflow isnt a problem, perhabs its better to take the Thermaltake if you build a rig for ~12.000$.

Or better,....buy also the USB-Riser and make an benchmark for us between the two cables Wink
