Sapphire r9 290x 4gb - z3roc00l - 06-08-2015
After finally getting the funds in order i built my self a little machine nothing to special but does they job for me.
I have been doing a few test's over last few day's and it seems ok so far, but i noticed something on the bench mark test i did.
WHere it says
Code: Device #1: Hawaii, 3072MB
Shouldn't it be

I'm not sure if the speeds are fast for the card, but it does me.
I am new to all this so it could all be working as it should, got to check these these out last thing i need is it blowing up.
PS why no spoiler tags.
Thanks very much.

RE: Sapphire r9 290x 4gb - smokey - 06-08-2015
I use the same gpu, Ive got 5 of them.
I get the same speeds as you on wpa2 with the basic command, but if add -n 32 to the command it goes from 179 kh/s to 189 - 190kh/s.
Also I have read someone managed to get over 200 kh/s by adding the --gpu-loops command but it didn't work for me.
RE: Sapphire r9 290x 4gb - epixoip - 06-08-2015
The reported memory is fine. Not all of the memory is available for compute tasks.

5 wow, i would love that many. You got any pics?
Its sitting at about 165 now which i'm happy with.

ok thanks for that good to know, i just need to keep an eye the 80oc temp might need some more cooling i think.
RE: Sapphire r9 290x 4gb - epixoip - 06-08-2015
Are you manually setting your fan to 90-100%?
RE: Sapphire r9 290x 4gb - z3roc00l - 06-08-2015
(06-08-2015, 08:50 PM)epixoip Wrote: Are you manually setting your fan to 90-100%?
Nope i let it control it's self, if it goes above 80oC fan kicks in and brings it down.
wasn't sure if it's best idea to have fan blasting constantly at 90-100%
RE: Sapphire r9 290x 4gb - epixoip - 06-08-2015
It's a really bad idea to let the BIOS manage the fan speed automatically, because it's programmed for gaming workloads, not compute workloads. You really must set the fan speed manually. Yes, it's okay to have the fan run at full speed.
RE: Sapphire r9 290x 4gb - Si2006 - 06-08-2015
Add --gpu-temp-retain=20, that will keep the fans at 100% throughout an attack.
RE: Sapphire r9 290x 4gb - Rolf - 06-09-2015
With lower temperatures slow down the natural deterioration of hardware, so setting the fans to maximum is a good idea.
