creating hashes educational purposes?

trying to better familiarize myself with hashes/algorithms and was wondering if anyone know of a good tool or site to create hashes, preferable hashes used during the 2011 defcon password cracking challenge, like mscash2, bf, etc.?

I use the insidepro hash gen site all the time but it doesn't create some of the hashes I want. if I can save time from having to build those systems to extract the hash it would be great...thx!
