Hi, which hashmode is this? Are you using the -O flag with hashcat 4.x? Starting with hashcat 4.x hashcat is using "pure" kernels by default. Those kernels accept longer candidates than optimized one...

If you use ^h^t^t^p^:^/^/, since the rules are read from left to right, you prepend //:ptth to each word in your dict (^h prepends h, but then ^t prepends t -> th with the previous one, etc…).
