How much are you paying for the GPUs? Why are you getting 1080TIs?

There aren't a lot of options with both a blower-style fan and a front air intake. T... |

Thread: 8 GPUs vs two 4 GPUs with hashtopolis
Post: RE: 8 GPUs vs two 4 GPUs with hashtopolis
Here's what we've settled on unless someone points out problems.
Case: CHENBRO RM41300-FS81
Mobo: AsRock Rack ROMED8-2T
CPU: AMD EPYC 7252
GPUs: 4x EVGA GeForce GTX 1080 Ti
HD: Western Digita... |

Thread: Bare Metal stability vs PCIe passthrough
Post: RE: Bare Metal stability vs PCIe passthrough
That's a good point. I haven't personally seen the instabilities at all, so I'm challenging the suggestion that everyone who uses hashcat see instabilities and is just used to it. |

Help settle a discussion for me. On our server, we've tested out setting up a VM with QEMU/KVM and using Virt Manager to pass GPUs to it. So hashcat is running in the VM and the bare metal OS doesn't... |

Perfect. Thanks Royce!
And love that response to Paul Moore. He's trolled some of our blog posts in the past & it's always nice to see him shut down. ;-) |

Thread: 8 GPUs vs two 4 GPUs with hashtopolis
Post: 8 GPUs vs two 4 GPUs with hashtopolis
Years ago I built a system with 4 GTX 980s that's been great. Looking to upgrade a bit and it looks like we can build an 8 GPU box for roughly twice the cost as a 4 GPU system. Is hashtopolis stable e... |

Thread: UPS/surge protector
Post: UPS/surge protector
I'm curious if anyone uses a surge protector or battery backup for larger cracking servers. Our system has four 980s and it's fine when not cracking, but as soon as we spin up the GPUs it pulls too mu... |

Thread: Fan Control
Post: RE: Fan Control
The vast majority of the sound is coming from the chassis fans though. If I go in the bios & turn the fans down manually, it's reasonable. I'd like to drop those down so they only spin up to full thr... |

Post: Fan Control
I've got an ASRock Z170 OC Formula board that works alright with 4 GTX 980s. I've beefed up several of the chassis fans that handle the cooling ok, but now they're quite loud. I'd like to be able to ... |

Thread: Yet Another Build Review
Post: RE: Yet Another Build Review
Thanks for the advice. I've never had a system that could run hashcat well enough to offset the speed of tables for some hash types.
So here's my updated build for future reference:

I have no clue why you need 5x 2TB drives, but that chassis only has like 3 internal 3.25" drive bays. Sounds like you should probably pick up a NAS or someth... |

I've read just about every build suggestion on here & have several pages of notes, but this is my first build so I'm still a bit anxious about it. I'm hoping someone with experience can look over what... |
