Mask Attack with a "blank" value?

I think I could have simply done this:

?1?1?1?1?1?1?1?1?1?1?1?1PASSWORD?1?1?1?1?1?1?1?1?1?1?1?1?1?1?1?1?1?1?1?1

And then used --increment-min 10 --increment-max 30

I think this would have achieved the same thing without 500 lines in the Mask
