Hash / Salt Custom Separator (Rule vs Code)
#1
Hi,

I am auditing an app with a custom seperator between the hash and the salt. I can crack some by prep-ending the separator character via a rule.

Is there a faster way of doing this - would I get more performance if I modified the hash cat code for the closest module and then recompiled hashcat?

Thank you

as I understand your question you are trying to crack something like hash($pass. "-" . $salt), right? In that case just specify "-$salt" instead of just $salt in your hash files.

Hi,

Thanks for the reply.

"as I understand your question you are trying to crack something like hash($pass. "-" . $salt), right?"

Yes that is exactly correct. Just to clarify - my input file of hashes would look something like

<MD5 Hash>:-$<SALT>
etc
etc
