WPA2 password recovered but nonsensical
#1
I'm a newbie using the latest stable version of hashcat and the GUI by BlandyUK.

I'm trying to recover a WPA2 password that I know is 10 characters long and is made up of a combination of the numbers 2-9 and the letters a-f. I defined Charset 2 as "23456789abcdef" and used Mask "?2?2?2?2?2?2?2?2?2?2". I've specified the location of the TXT output file and have "Remove found hashes" and "Disable Pot File" ticked (as per default in this GUI).

After 1 day and 20 hours (31.76% progress), the process stopped, showing "Recovered 2/2". Excitedly, I went to open the output text file in notepad….. but it just contains a 20-digit long number (twice, on separate rows) instead of the expected 10-character long pw that should reasonably also include letters?

What's going on? Is the output in some additional format that needs to be converted, or has something gone wrong?

If so, can I restart the process using the restore point (31.75%), and how do I do that then?

Thanks

So I realise that I had the Output Format set to hash[: salt]:plain.

Is this the problem?

Can I still convert the result to plain?
