Any recommendation for a rig supplier?
#1
Hi all,

today I received my 2x 1070s but they are way too big for my tower. I cut out the 3.5" hdd cage but still some components on the mobo are in the way (like the sata connectors)

I have already ordered pcie risers (the parallel cable ones) and I wonder which rig to use? Do you guys diy the rigs? do you have plans etc?

Or are there suppliers (in germany) that offer not too expensive open rigs?

I build my current rig with 2xEVGA GTX 1070s using this site.  It does the checking for size, power, etc. for you.

It also gives you a selection of multiple suppliers at multiple prices so you can pick and choose as you like.

if you are not planning to go beyond 4 cards i'd stick with epixoip's recommendation and have a look at CHENBRO RM41300-FS81.

i wanted to go beyond 4 cards, so CHENBRO wasn't an option. A good choice for up to 8 cards would be TYAN FT77. it's good but it's expensive. Therefore i did a hacky custom setup: https://anonimag.es/image/mur ... it's using an industrial pc chassis, a cheap i3 consumer board, low profile pcie risers, a 2000W power supply and currently stacked with 5 GPUs. two good fans in the back are keeping things cool enough.

honestly, was a real PITA building it ... even though i'm happy now. took me several attempts and lots of hardware "research" to get everything right in the end. therefore i can't recommend doing it the way i did, too much troubles to solve. so either stick with something suitable for 4 or less cards, like chenbro, or take a load of money and get something like FT77. ;-)

p.s. i really like this "open" custom setup, too: https://hashcat.net/misc/d05.jpg

Last time i checked there were no supplier of open cases in germany. However that might have changed considering the popularity of testbenches.

Building it yourself is an option but takes some planing and at least 150 eur. There are some german sites that allow you to order aluminium profiles already cut to sizes from 10cm to 2m.

With some luck you might find a used mining rig without gpus for a few bucks.

thanks to all for the info.

I got some aluminium L stripes, 3mm nuts and bolts and see what I can do ;-)

got it! ;-) I'm happy with the first try. I'll have to build one a little cleaner Wink
