General talk question, not a support request.
I help organise a study group for people learning security, mostly students preparing for certifications and a few people doing CTFs on weekends. We share write-ups, run practice sessions and help each other set up labs.
After a year the group has around 400 people. The active core came almost entirely from a few members who invite classmates and then mentor them through their first challenges.
We wanted to give those mentors some recognition, but the basic invite stats were full of people who joined before an exam and vanished right after it.
We moved to an invite tracker that only counts people who stay active, and the list now matches the mentors everyone already knew about.
For anyone else running a study or CTF group: how do you keep people around after the exam is over?
