AMD has both more raw power and a the better integer instruction set (floating-point doesn't matter) and thus it's better for crypto, since crypto only uses integer instructions. That's the reason why its generally faster than NV in crypto.
But, AMD has bad support for 64 bit instructions or at least worse support than NV. This makes it bad when it comes to 64 bit based algorithms, such as SHA512.
