We were both making the same error. There are some hidden control characters in your hex salt. That's causing extra characters to be in the salt. I can verify that there does seem to be an issue on 0.08 with using hex salt with that hash. However as a work-around you should be able to enclose the hash
alt in single quotes, which worked fine for me on 0.08.
Try copy/paste this:
'4a80a448a4a5c5d20024cba8a3c779dd:?$x&XL5w>\c*7,F03G=v~0`THUP{,b'
