We run a couple Tyan FT77 rigs with 4 x 1080's that have been great. They're older boards now to be sure, but since the GPUs are doing all the real work they've been fine. Really nicely designed boxes for this kind of thing.
I would expect they would handle running 8x no problem, but the speed is already blazing fast, and having the space between each one for airflow means we haven't really had to worry about heat at all.
