hashcat m500 "line length exception
#1
I'm trying the following command:

hashcat-cli64.exe -m=500 -a=0 examples\A0.M500.hash examples\A0.M500.word

And get the following errors:

Initializing hashcat v0.40 by atom with 8 threads and 32mb segment-size...

Any idea what I'm doing wrong ?

Many thanks.

try with -m 500 (not -m=500)

Yup - that's it - thanks, I was confused with the usage statement.

Ok, next Q. I want to use a mask, but it's not clear how I do that. The usage suggests that I supply a mask or a wordlist file, however, whatever I supply is interpreted as being a file. None of the "attack-modes" explicitly state a mask mode.... confused :-(
