I am going to be cracking MD5 and NTML. Heat is not a problem. Any recommendation for a power supply for 11 R9 290x's?

You cannot have 11x 290X in one system. AMD only supports up to 8 GPUs.

Would I be able to do a 11 gpu rig with nividia?
#15
yes, nvidia supports more than 8 gpus.

This is the Supermicro-X9DRX-F-B:

Maybe you can already tell by that picture that there is no way of fitting 11 2-slot cards in there. There is a Supermicro server system where you can fit in 8 290x/GTX980 (which is afaik the one Sagitta uses). But that's the max i've ever seen.
And if those things already are too high for you, my advice is to step back down and build a solid 4-way system, which is challenging enough if you've built only standard Gaming-PCs yet.

And sure, if you live in northern Alaska and the server rack is stuffed outside in a wooden shack with constant -20°C, yeah then maybe heat is not a problem (other things are, but whatever). Otherwise it is THE problem.

Watercooling an R9 290x, then OC the thing to 1150 results in higher hash/s than a stock GTX 980. All under 54 degrees on the card, and the best part, for half the price of a 980

If it was up to me, I would build 2 to 4 watercooled PCs, each with 3 x R9 290x using the ASUS Rampage IV Extreme, connect everything with a VCL

I don't see where you can buy a 290x including a water cooler for have the price of an GTX980. Prices here in Europe start at 320,-/500,- for a 290x/GTX980. Plus at least 60 bucks for a water cooler. The GTX 980 easily overclocks +15% too if you place it in proper airflow. But surely the 290x offers the best price/performance ratio. Until you let it run 24/7 and burn away the cheaper price with electricity costs.

And I wouldn't like to hassle with watercooled PCs and improper VCL software. But maybe that's just me.

I know this might be a stupid question but why is there no talk about any of the titan gpu's?

Titan is the old Kepler chipset that does not perform in any way under hashcat like the new Maxwell generation.
