Introduction & Tips for New Hashcat Users
#2
Welcome to hash cracking! Attack recommendations kinda depends on your hardware, but dictionaries (aka wordlists) and rules are almost always the best way to start on any fast hashlist, like MD5/NTLM
"Wordlist" - a file containing candidate passwords, like "123456" or "Password1"
"Rules" / "Rulefile" - a file containing rules, which distort the wordlist's candidate passwords, like lowercasing or appending 1, to make "password" into "password1" etc

There are hundreds of wordlists and rules but some that I recommend are:
Wordlist - Rockyou https://weakpass.com/wordlists/rockyou.txt
Wordlist - Hashmob Combined https://hashmob.net/resources/hashmob
Rules - Top_ https://forum.hashkiller.io/index.php?th...les.37302/
Rules - Oneruletorulethemstill - https://github.com/stealthsploit/OneRuleToRuleThemStill
