How to install amdgpu on linux?
#1
Sad
Hello,

i am unable to install a driver for my RX480 on any systems for multiple days now.
I read the wiki, any forum post i could find, askubuntu, some blogs, documentation for the drivers by amd and i don't know what to do anymore.

Tried systems: debian, kubuntu, ubuntu, centos, ubuntu server, multiple older ubuntus and multiple different drivers.

Everything fails, mainly because of dependencies that cannot be matched.

Does anybody know any procedure to install it that actually works at this time on any linux distro or could steer me to some path that might work?

My last option would be to use windows and i **really** don't want to do that...

I don't use Debian based distros, so I'm not sure, but maybe you could try Arch or Arch based distro? (Manjaro, EndevaourOS)

Then you can try:

https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/AMDGPU#Installation

or

https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/AMDGPU_PRO
and
https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/GPGPU#ROCm

Look here too:

I'm not sure, but it is possible that you can have a problem with OpenCL and amd gpu.

Thank you very much for this idea! I did not test arch, but will do.
