Rule Functions With Control Characters?

Is it possible with hashcat to insert/overwrite with non printable control characters using hashcats rule engine?

Obviously the following example doesn't work, but you should get the idea.

i4\x1e
o4\x18

[atom]

it works for all chars 0x00 - 0xff except 0x00 and \n -- just post the character as it is like i4ö
