Whenever I type "hashcat" in the terminal, it always says you're using an outdated version, how to update it?

run the following:

apt-get update

Also make sure to add the bleeding-edge repo.

Just download it from the website..

apt-get update

This command will not update your system. To update you also have to run "apt-get upgrade".
