Looking for the best setup for 500kh/s or 1000kh/s on WPA/WPA2
#1
Hey, I have a buddy who is looking to set up his first cracking rig, primarily for WPA/WPA cracking. There are so many options today, so he is looking for a good recommendation to reach one of the two scenarios (probably based on the cost) to reach either 500kh/s or 1000kh/s.

We both have been looking at a TON of hardware options, but would like a more experienced user's input for motherboards, GPUs, power supplies etc. So what do you think is the most cost effective setup for both of the 2 goals?

Any questions, just ask Smile

What budget are we talking about?

Sorry had to ask him, so we'll probably be aiming for the 500kh/s goal, he said around $1200-$1500

Thanks! Can you also recommend a good PSU, CPU and motherboard that will fit all 3?

I am using 5 r9 290x's and I am getting around 900 KH/s.

I use the lepa  g1600  psu, it can power 4 r9 290x's with no problem.

I use msi bing bang xpower 2 mother board and i7 3820 cpu + 8gb ram.

The best price and ROI way now is

5x GTX 970

970 is more than 3x faster than cheapest 750ti and price is better.

MB ASRock X79 Extreme11 or another MB with 5 x Pcie x16

My configuration is 5x GTX970
32GB RAM, 120GB SSD disk

power is 5x150W max.. with 1kw PDU is everything ok..

current WPA speed is  880kh/s
my price is about 2800USD

8 chars WPA, only letters take up to 1 day..

off course i can use 980 or titan, but they are 50% higher price, but speed is about 200kh/s per card..

now is GTX970 the best price investion..

5x GTX 970 and a 1kw PSU is not a very clever idea for many reasons. The PSU will always operates at its limit. That's bad for a) life endurance, b) noise, c) power costs and d) stability. A PSU works effectiv in the range auf roughly 25-75% use. Under and above that it loses a few percentages power effiecency. If you let your system run a lot like 24/7 even 1% difference shows off later on your power bill. It depends on the PSU, a gold or better is taken for granted.

Stability is even more important. If a PSU runs at its limits nasty effects can occur and for the worst it might shut down some of your GPUs forever by an internal shortcut.

Buy a 1500W instead.

But what if I'm only running 3?

3x 150W with 100W other think all is  550-600W then 1KW PSU is ok for that without problem.
