Hardware Review Please
#1
I'm getting ready to build two of these boxes and wanted to know if I could get anyone's opinion on this.

Also note that there is an extra GPU and extra PCI Riser card for a spare on the list.  I will be running a 6 GPU host.

Thanks in advance.

If you are thinking about going with the 980 Ti, you might as well check out the 1080 or 1070. Roughly the same/or lower price.

Yes, go 1080

I very much want to go with the 1080, but it is hard to find that many available as of right now.  I am under a time crunch.

Does the rest of the system look like it has any issues with compatibility ?

I don't know, the whole configuration looks wrong for me, but I'm not that much of a hardware specialist.
CPU, RAM and Board is OK. Power is good but you may need to think about how you manage 2 of them. Cooler is not needed, go boxed. Storage why so many, a single SSD will do, too. Rig is OK but I think it's not enough space between the GPU's and not enough space between the board and the GPU to work on it, especially if you really want to use a CPU cooler. I think there could be better solutions. Any most important, the GPU. Wait 10 more days and the Shops will be flooded with 1080's.

Well everything has been ordered and recieved.  I am currently working on trying to get the box to work correctly.

If I run lspci | grep VGA it shows all 6 of the video cards that are plugged into the Mobo, but if I try and run clinfo it shows no platforms.

Going to keep digging through it to see if I can get it to work.  If anyone has advice on getting more than 4 or 5 cards to work with Linux it would be greatly appreciated.

did u try to run them on a windows machine ?
what OS u have right now?
which drivers are u using ?

make sure u distribute the power from the psu to all the system (how did u distribute the cables?)
meaning 5 cards on one psu and the system and other gpu to the second psu

Thanks for the quick reply.
Right now running Ubuntu 16.04, using the official Nvidia drivers from the Nvidia website.
(1) Power supply handles the motherboard and 3 of the video cards.
(1) Power supply handles 3 video cards.

Currently trying to get the box to work with Windows.  I am thinking it might be a motherboard issue though, because sometimes it doesn't even post correctly.

As I get more information i'll continue to post here.  Maybe someone will need this information in the future.
