Howdy
I have 2 7zip files that are mine and have important documents. I've tried several things to recover the passwords.
I have only done some testing with hashcat, but i'm hoping someone can help me.
I thought I had the passwords to these files and I may just not have tried every combination. I've tried using hashcat with 2 dictionary lists and failed, tried with 1 and then the best64 rule and failed, and I think I'm doing something wrong.
Can anyone offer a suggestion? I have read that I needed the latest version, I downloaded hashcat-3.5.0+76.7z and tried this as it appears to have just been released on 5/3 and no luck
One of the things I just read tonight is that the hash has to be right. I used the utility 7z2hashcat 0.9 to get the hash of the files.
The passwords might be 10-15 characters, upper/lower/characters/numbers. I can probably remove some of the characters, but I am not certain.
If someone can point me in the right direction it would be very much appreciated. I've read everything that I can fine, but obviously I'm not an expert.
