VCL-Cluster vs PCI Express Splitter solution
#1
Hello,

I am contemplating about a VCL-Cluster vs PCI Express Splitter solution for about 8 7970 GPU.

The VCL is probably more scalable meanwhile the PCI Express Slitter solution seems to be much cheaper.

Are there other important things to consider?

Thank's a lot for any feedback/help!

John

The official 7990 comes out in two weeks. If you're considering something like this it would probably just be best to pick up 4x7990.

First time I see that splitter. By curiosity, how much was it? Then, an open question to anyone: Do you think that with an 1x to 16x cable adapter to each of the 1x end of the splitter, all the 4 graphic card wuold work well for cracking?

Good to know. Thank's for the advise :-)

Does a 7990 fit in a 2u rack or is a 3u rack required (like the Tyan B7015F77V4R) ?

Thank you!

It might work in a 2U chassis like the Supermicro SYS-2027GR-TRFH but I don't know for sure. The Tyan B7015F77V4R is 4U, not 3U, and it will definitely work in there, although you will only be able to run four of them in that chassis.

Thank's for the feedback epixoip! Is the Tyan B7015F77V4R as well your favourite for the 4x7990 solution?

Thank's!

Interesting and good to know! Does that mean, that I should forget the PCI Express Splitter solution?

Thank you!
