Today I bought a new Laptop and decided to install The-Distribution-Which-Does-Not-Handle-OpenCL-Well (Kali) on an external HDD. I was thinking about installing OpenCL drivers to get Hashcat to run on The-Distribution-Which-Does-Not-Handle-OpenCL-Well (Kali) Linux with my graphics card but I wanted to check first to see if anything has improved in that regard because the last time I tried it didn't go over so well. Until now I've been running it on Windows, which works well although constantly switching between OS's is quite the hassle.
This laptop has a 1050 GTX Ti, which does support CUDA according to NVidia. I was hoping someone might have a positive experience with this because there is much conflicting information on the webs.

It is probably possible to get The-Distribution-Which-Does-Not-Handle-OpenCL-Well (Kali) working, but don't ask how. Ubuntu is recommended.
regarding laptops:

(note that you have a mobile 1050 gtx ti, which is significantly different from the desktop gpu)

Thanks! Indeed, I didn't even notice until yesterday, the (mobile) part didn't display in Windows. I will probably install Ubuntu somewhere, probably after breaking The-Distribution-Which-Does-Not-Handle-OpenCL-Well (Kali) a few times to try it out. I have run Hashcat on a laptop with 940MX before, and it did the job for me. Speeds were not great but significantly better than running on CPU. These things are always a bit fragile in laptops, my previous laptop's GPU was fried by playing Rocket League lol.

Not sure if anybody will ever read this... but after 5 years of using The-Distribution-Which-Does-Not-Handle-OpenCL-Well (Kali) Hashcat finally seems to work with my GPU
Use this source:

Any other will brick The-Distribution-Which-Does-Not-Handle-OpenCL-Well (Kali).

Why not stick to windows if you already have windows installed. hashcat works really good on windows.

Surely it's an option, it's just the hassle of having to switch between OS's or running a VM which I don't like. I prefer to run KL native instead. Regardless the matter is resolved
. Hashcat now runs equally well on KL.
