Radeon HD 6850 Win 7
#1
Hello,

I am having trouble getting hashcat to recognize my GPU. I have downloaded the latest drivers from here:

https://www.amd.com/en/support/graphics/...on-hd-6850

They are installed and working properly. My machine is running Windows 7 ultimate 64.

I gave up on trying to get the NVIDIA drivers to install on my The-Distribution-Which-Does-Not-Handle-OpenCL-Well (Kali) linux laptop, too much of a hassle.

Any help would be appreciated.

AMD dropped driver support for non-GCN GPUs. The last driver to support VLIW GPUs was Catalyst 15.9; however, per the front page of the website, "AMD GPUs on Windows require "AMD Radeon Software Crimson Edition" (15.12 or later)". In other words, your GPU is too old for Hashcat.

Ok, thank you for your reply.

I saw this thread: https://hashcat.net/forum/thread-4521.html and it looks like there is data for speeds on the 6850 so I figured someone got it working.

Radeon HD 6850: ~43200 PMK/s

And also this thread: https://hashcat.net/forum/thread-3991.html it seems he has his working. Are you saying the card is no longer supported or that it never was?

The version of Crimson that I have installed is 16.2.1 beta which should be later then 15.12.

Those threads are over 3 years old. Again, AMD dropped support for all non-GCN GPUs in November 2015.

Crimson 16.2 does not support the HD 6850, https://support.amd.com/en-us/kb-article..._16.2.aspx

The last driver to support your GPU was Catalyst 15.9

My point is if someone was able to get it working then I should also be able to get it working by installing what they had installed.

I was directed to the 16.2 driver when I selected my card from their list.
