Just got one in this morning. Beast of a chip with horrid stock cooling. Had hashcat abort a run due to hitting the default temp ceiling.

"Had hashcat abort a run due to hitting the default temp ceiling." that's kinda unexpected. ... did this happen with fanspeed at 100% or fanspeed in auto mode? (i'm asking coz it might be nvidia-367 related, which - at least for me - doesn't keep the fans at 100% for consecutive hashcat runs. this happens for me when powertune is off (default), haven't tried enabling yet, coz i'm not running hashcat as root. - Even with nvidia persistence mode enabled, i have to set fans/clockspeeds before every hashcat run, otherwise the fans will only stay at 100% for the first hashcat execution). - So this is why i'm asking.
08-13-2016, 05:14 PM
@rchange, it was retail from nvidia at $1200. As far as I know that is the only option.
@jodler303, fans were in automode with driver 369.05. I've since changed the default fan profile and while I still run into throttling warnings w/100% fan, I haven't had another abort happen. Seems like the hardware itself is just terribly cooled.
08-13-2016, 06:58 PM
hm. that's weird. do you have comparison in the same computer (e.g. titan x, 1080 or similar) ? ... i'd expect the cooling to be comparable to titan x, because it's also a 250W TDP card. When my gtx 1080 runs in automode, it also becomes hot quickly and would probably abort. as soon as i force fan speed to 100% (which i always do) it's almost the same as gtx 980 and titan x, sometimes 1-3 degrees hotter than the maxwell based cards. my 1080 also throttles sometimes, but not too hard, decided to wait for newer drivers instead of further investigating ...
08-14-2016, 08:12 AM
So a quick comparison indicates that a single Titan X Pascal is ~ 2-3 times faster than dual d700s in mac pro. I'll be doing some eGPU testing on mac and will post results. I'm not in a huge rush, however, and don't want to buy last generation's tech. But there aren't any mac drivers for the Pascal GPUs yet... so once those hit I'll take the plunge.
Thanks for sharing!

This card perform very nice, good to see. But stil too expensive for me. I will w8 untill the new AMD cards come out I hope the can beat this beast
