What modular psu would you guys suggest for three R9 290x?

1000w psu just for GPUs or 1250w for GPUs and computer.

a good power supply is cheap insurance, there's absolutely no excuse to not buy the best psu you can find. otherwise, you will likely end up buying another power supply AND motherboard.

personal favs:

LEPA P1375-MA
Enermax EPM1350EWT
Thermaltake TPX-1475M
Enermax EMR1500EWT
Lepa G1600-MA

I am just going to be powering the GPUS so a 1000w will do huh?

I would think so. Looking at Wikipedia a R9 290x can use up-to 290 watt, so 3 of them would be 870 watt leaving 130 watt headroom but this maybe cutting it a bit close if you intend to overclock them.

no reason to get such as small psu. even with 130W headroom that's still running at 87% load. no reason to buy a slightly cheaper psu and put that much load on it. just spend a little bit more and get the biggest & best psu you can find. again, cheap insurance.

I agree with you epixoip but a 1000w would work ok, no?

Pyrex, techPowerUp has a good list of PSU reviews which may help you pick one.
